About Badagry Slave Route & Heritage Museum
Badagry is where Nigerian history confronts you most directly. This ancient coastal town 60km from Lagos was one of the main departure points for enslaved Africans during the transatlantic slave trade, and the Slave Route walks you past the Point of No Return — the final jetty where enslaved people were loaded onto ships — through the Heritage Museum, the Mobee Family slave relics, and the first storey building in Nigeria built by missionaries in 1845. It is sobering, essential, and deeply human. The sheer weight of what happened here makes every Nigerian who visits understand their country differently.
