About Benin City National Museum
The Benin City National Museum holds the definitive collection of Benin Kingdom art — bronzes, ivories, wooden carvings and terracottas that represent one of the highest achievements in the history of world art. The Benin Bronzes, created between the 13th and 19th centuries, are technically and artistically extraordinary: cast using the lost-wax method with a precision and naturalism that astonished European scholars when they first encountered them. Visiting the museum is both an artistic experience and a political one — the question of the thousands of pieces removed to Western museums in the British Punitive Expedition of 1897 and never returned hangs over every room.

Write a ReviewFascinating collection of artefacts and history. The exhibits are well curated and informative. Already planning to come back with family.
Could easily spend half a day here. Every gallery reveals something new about our rich heritage. Would definitely return on my next trip.
