About Bower's Tower
Bower's Tower is the oldest building in Ibadan and offers the most complete view of one of Africa's most fascinating cities. Built in 1936 by Captain Robert Lister Bower to commemorate the first British Resident of Ibadan, the 60-foot tower sits atop Oke-Are Hill and looks out over a cityscape of densely packed red-roofed buildings that stretch in every direction as far as you can see. Ibadan has no skyline of glass towers — it's a horizontal city of ancient compounds and neighbourhood markets — and the view from Bower's Tower is the best way to grasp its extraordinary scale.
