About Emotan Statue
The statue of Emotan stands at the heart of Benin City's Ring Road roundabout, marking the spot where the historical Emotan — a trader and market woman of the 14th century who played a decisive role in the restoration of the Benin Kingdom — once plied her trade. She is one of the most revered figures in Benin history, credited with hiding and protecting the Prince who would eventually return to reclaim the throne. The statue, commissioned in the 1950s, is both a landmark and a statement about the place of women in Benin's historical memory.

This is the kind of place that makes you proud to be Nigerian. Brilliant experience overall. Would definitely return on my next trip.
